Meet our team

Hamza Andreas Tzortzis

CEO, Sapience ınstıtute
Hamza Tzortzis is the founder and CEO of Sapience Institute and author of the best-selling The Divine Reality, translated into 10+ languages. He holds postgraduate qualifications in Philosophy from the University of London and is pursuing a PhD on Qur’anic verses relating to nature.

Fahad Tasleem

Sh. Fahad Tasleem is a research fellow and instructor at The Sapience Institute, specializing in Islamic theo-philosophy and spirituality. He is the author of No Doubt: Finding Certainty in an Age of Uncertainty and is pursuing a PhD in Islamic Thought at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Mohammed Hijab

Mohammed Hijab is a Philosopher of Religion and co-founder of Sapience Institute, known for debates on Islam, theology, and politics. He is pursuing a PhD at the University of Birmingham, appears in media, and has authored Burhan and The Scientific Deception of the New Atheists.

Yusuf Ponders

Yusuf is a researcher and Sapience Institute’s Lighthouse Mentoring manager. He holds a first-class BA in Philosophy, with a focus on nihilism and the meaning of life, explored through his dissertation and public discussions. He embraced Islam in 2014 and has since studied formally with a qualified shaykh, alongside continuing his philosophical studies.

Dr. Osman Latiff

Dr. Osman Latiff is a Senior Researcher and Instructor at Sapience Institute. He holds a BA in History, an MA in Crusader Studies, and has completed a PhD in the ‘Place of Fada'il al-Quds (Merits of Jerusalem) and Religious Poetry in the Muslim effort to recapture Jerusalem in the Crusades', published as 'The Cutting Edge of the Poet’s Sword: Muslim Poetic Responses to the Crusades' (Brill, 2018). He also has a PostDoc in Politics and International Relations - 'Syncretism and the Power of the Visual Dimension in War and Suffering', published as 'Navigating War, Dissent and Empathy in Arab/U.S relations: Seeing Our Others in Darkened Spaces’ (Springer, 2021) 

Sh. Anwar Arafat

Sh. Anwar Arafat is imam at Islamic Association of Greater Memphis. From Salt Lake City, he moved to Memphis in 2014. He studied Islam locally and abroad, earning a BA in Islamic Studies and an MA in Islamic Leadership (TISA, Dallas). He is U.S. Outreach Specialist for iERA.

Imran Hussein

Imran Hussein is the author of Dying to Believe. He holds a BSc in Engineering, an MA in Islamic Studies, and a diploma in Qur’anic Arabic. A speaker, instructor, and writer, he critiques contemporary worldviews—especially New Atheism—and teaches Qur’an-centred outreach through UK community and university programmes.

Subboor Ahmad

Subboor Ahmad is a writer and debater deeply engaged in discussions surrounding New Atheism. He holds a master’s degree in Philosophy from Birkbeck College, University of London. Throughout his career, Subboor has debated atheist apologists, including academics and prominent online figures, tackling issues such as scientism, the existence of God, and Darwinism. He hosts a popular academic podcast featuring diverse thinkers and is currently pursuing a PhD focused on theistic evolution.

Abdullah Al-Andalusi

Abdullah al Andalusi is an international speaker, thinker and intellectual activist for Islam and Muslim affairs. He is a researcher for the I3 Institute, an instructor and Head of the Department of Occidentology at The Quran Institute (TQI), and co-founder of the discussion forum, The Muslim Debate Initiative (MDI).
For 20 years, his work has been in explaining and demonstrating the intellectual proofs for the Islamic belief system, promoting the Islamic way of life and Islamic solutions for contemporary problems and advocating for the rights of Muslims across the world.
Abdullah has taught a number of courses and has given a variety of lectures at universities and colleges internationally, but he is better known for his numerous TV appearances and public debates.
